A distressed passenger from Delta reportedly attempted to open the aircraft door in flight on Friday before the plane landed at LaGuardia Airport.

The Delta Connection flight 5935 operated by Republic Airways from the Raleigh-Durham International Airport in North Carolina, landed at the security, said a spokesman for the Republic.

"We just have a disturbed passenger, mentally disturbed, trying to open the front door," said a pilot, according to Air Traffic Control's audio released by NBC New York. "Everything is under control now."

The pilot later asked the law enforcement officers to meet the plane at the door. Passengers shared the details of the test on Twitter, including photos showing police and emergency responders on the tarmac on the outside of the plane.

"A young woman in her early twenties became suicidal and tried to open the plane door while we were going down the LGA," Stacy Herbert said on Twitter.

Passengers were held in the plane to make statements to the police, according to another article posted on Twitter.

The port authority confirmed that the police reacted to the plane, but that there was no arrest. Representatives of the agency and Republic Airways could not immediately confirm the details of what had happened on the flight.

Sources told the New York Post that the woman had been taken to a local hospital for assessment. There was no injury.

The flight landed around 13:40. after leaving North Carolina at 12:18 pm, according to FlightAware.

Despite an annoying incident, the passenger could not open the aircraft door at a cruising altitude due to the pressure difference from the outside of the aircraft.
