Puma has signed a 10-year agreement with Fossil for the construction of smartwatches. The Puma Smartwatch is the first of what could be many watches born of this partnership. As long as Wear OS will also be active in the long run, the collaboration could provide us with some of the most beautiful watches running on Google's smartwatch operating system.
Becoming a sportsman has been a theme for many Fossil smartwatch brands in 2019, but it has always been a sporting adventure with Puma's first watch. This is a 44 mm size watch made with a nylon case measuring 11 mm in thickness and coupled with 16 mm bracelets.

It weighs only 28 grams, which makes it lighter than the Fossil Sport. Its attractive design is undoubtedly the user-friendliness of the gym.
The 1.16-inch AMOLED display is completely round (there is no puncture here) and it features the best of Fossil smartwatches. There is only one physical crown with the Puma logo to break an otherwise streamlined look. If you like the idea of a smaller sized framed smart watch, then Puma will have a big appeal.
In spite of his lightness, Puma managed to accumulate a good sum here. Built-in GPS, heart rate monitor, payment stand and all key motion sensors are there. All without dramatic impact on size and construction. Chunky Wear watches are a thing of the past and should be applauded.
However, Wear OS watches do not offer the best. There is no speaker, which began appearing on other smartwatches built by Fossil. It still has only 4GB of storage and 512MB of RAM too. Most importantly, it has Qualcomm's Snapdragon 3100 processor.
In addition to the general performance improvements, it brings new smart battery modes, which Wear needs greatly. Puma and Fossil says you should get 24 hours and 2 extra days using these battery modes.
Puma's smart watch also brings a familiar software experience. Everything from music notifications to Google Fit-enabled activity tracking and numerous alerts is available.
What we were really hoping for here was good watch dials and a quick overview of what Puma would offer on the front. This iconic logo is in the foreground, but there are also watch faces that also absorb your vital health and fitness data.
Initial verdict
The collaboration between Puma and Fossil is certainly interesting. The sports brand is already investing its time in creating connected shoes and in exploring how it could also bring a touch of elegance to clothing.
The Puma Smartwatch does nothing radically different from what already exists. But you'll like that if you're a fan of Puma and you prefer something less spectacular than some of the other smartwatches on the market. But we think that what could come out of this long-term partnership is really interesting here.
Puma clearly wants to play more in the technology sector and hopes it can help bring something innovative that will benefit Wear OS and smartwatches as a whole.
