Police in Albuquerque arrested a man on Friday, accusing him of killing a baseball player at the University of New Mexico (UNM) at a popular restaurant last weekend. .

Darian Bashir, 23, was arrested Saturday in an apartment and arrested without incident. He faces a murder leader in the assassination of 23-year-old Jackson Weller.

Weller's friends told the police that the former baseball player was fighting before the shot but that Bashir was not involved, according to the Albuquerque newspaper.

According to the police, three witnesses saw Bashir hold a rifle and two of them said they saw him shooting at Weller and fleeing him.

Bashir was arrested and charged with serious assault with a deadly weapon on February 13 for allegedly firing a weapon in a vehicle, but Judge Richard Brown released Bashir because he had "minimal criminal history" and "no conviction for a crime".
