VENICE (AP) – A Sports Illustrated article on young athletes who would decide the future of the sport was shot dead.
According to police quoted by the St. Louis police, Jaylon McKenzie, the eighth-largest student in the East St. Louis class, was shot dead Saturday night at a party in Venice, Illinois, at about 5 pm km northeast of St. Louis.

Police said they found McKenzie seriously injured and that he died in a hospital. A 15-year-old girl was in critical condition in a hospital. No arrests were made.
McKenzie drew public attention when he captured five assists for a 161-yard, two-touch win in the 8th US NFL game in Canton, Ohio, in August. He announced on social media that he had received football scholarships from the University of Missouri and the University of Illinois. He told Sports Illustrated that his dream was to play in the NFL and be a star in Los Angeles for the Chargers or the Rams.
