A teenager chases an officer who was holding him at the end of the rifle near a bus stop

A Wyoming teenager sues an officer on leave from Colorado who fired a gun at him as he rushed to a bus stop in Jackson.

The Jackson Hole News & Guide reports that 18-year-old Gerardo Becerra has filed charges of assault, assault and battery, and false imprisonment against Vanessa Schultz in a Wyoming court.

Schultz is a Colorado police officer. She was on vacation when she heard a loud noise and assumed that a teenager who was running nearby had committed a crime. Becerra was running to catch a bus.

The lawsuit states that Schultz reportedly arrested Becerra, threatened to shoot him and was "marveled" at the police's arrival.

A special prosecutor concluded that Schultz should not have withdrawn his weapon, but that criminal prosecution was not justified.

A telephone message for Schultz left with the Lakewood Police Department was not immediately returned.

This story was corrected to reflect the fact that Becerra was running to catch the bus, not Schultz.
