A teenager from Queens suspected of being arrested for terrorist plot in New York and involved in a knife attack on behalf of the Islamic State

A 19-year-old man was arrested after allegedly texting undercover agents telling him that he was planning an attack on behalf of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in the neighborhood. New York Queens. A source close to the case said that the suspect, a resident of Queens, was preparing a knife attack, reports Pat Milton of CBS News.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in federal court in Brooklyn on Friday, CBS reports.

The US prosecutor's office said the 19-year-old, who allegedly sent a text message to a secret agent about his plans, was arrested as part of a "national security investigation." The officials did not reveal the name of the suspect nor what his specific target could have been.

The teenager would have been under constant surveillance from law enforcement, and officials said in a statement that there were currently no public security problems as a result of this arrest.

CBS New York reports that the teenager lives in a neighborhood of East Elmhurst, Queens.
