Images of the extra-corporeal camera released Thursday by the California Police Department in Oxnard showed a 17-year-old girl apologizing to a police officer after running with a large knife.
Chief Scott Whitney described Friday's showdown on May 3 in a video package posted and posted by the ministry. The teenager's face was blurry in the video because of her age.
The officers had received several calls about a 12-inch knife woman who "seemed upset," Whitney said.
Body camera agent Timothy Roberts showed it, telling the girl not to catch the weapon and sit on the sidewalk. Roberts was the first to arrive on the scene. When she was told not to catch the knife, the teenager asked what would happen if she did.
"Then something serious will happen," said Roberts.

The camera showed the officer who was away from the girl, who was wearing a red shirt, blue shorts and sneakers.

"Give up," could we hear the officer.
"No," she replied.
"Come and shoot me," she continued. "I waited all day."
The agent continued to move away from her while ordering him to drop the knife. The teenager refused to drop the knife and continued walking towards him.
When she suddenly started running at Roberts with the knife in her right hand, he shot her repeatedly and she collapsed.
As a result of the shooting, the officer managed to recover the knife.

"I'm so sorry," said the teenager writhing on the sidewalk.
"It does not matter," an officer said.
The officer was seen giving him medical help while they were waiting for an ambulance.
The girl remained hospitalized Thursday in critical but stable condition, officials said. The investigation was ongoing and Roberts was put on administrative leave, in accordance with police policy. The second officer arrived moments before the shooting and was preparing to use a bean weapon to try to control the girl, according to a statement from the police.
