A Tennessee mayor who is about to be re-elected was arrested after the police said he had tried to get a tablet press to make illegal drugs.

The Macon County Sheriff's Office on Thursday arrested Red Boiling Springs Mayor Joel Coe on charges of criminal conspiracy and falsification of evidence. He is ready for reelection Saturday against two opponents.

WZTV-TV obtained the affidavit relating to the arrest and first reported it.

The affidavit says that Coe had announced to someone how to get a pill press used to make pills containing fentanyl and heroin, and then sent messages about hiding the press to the police, using trash bags.

He says that Coe suppressed the messages when he was confronted and that agents were waiting for him when he arrived with garbage bags at the place of the pill press.

A voice message with Coe's office was not immediately returned.
