A Texan father seized the weapon of an intruder in front of his 13-year-old daughter's room early Sunday and shot him several times, police said.
The suspect, whose police said he was in his thirties, broke into the Houston family home through the ground-floor window shortly after midnight, the Houston Chronicle reported.
According to reports, police responded to the call of an intruder in a Houston home around 2:40 pm Sunday.

A neighbor had heard the shots and helped bring the four children of the father aged 4 to 13 years, reported The Chronicle. Back home, the neighbor saw the suspect stabbing himself with a kitchen knife, according to the report.

The suspect was taken to Southwest Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The link between the suspect and the family of the house was not immediately obvious. Police said the incident was still under investigation.
