Child protection services removed the boy from his care in 2017 after being alerted by a Dallas hospital that medical staff had determined that he had neither cancer nor many of the symptoms reported by Bowen.

According to the newspaper, the young man was reportedly transferred at least 323 times to hospitals and pediatric centers in Dallas and Houston. He underwent 13 major surgeries between 2009 and 2016.

The child's father, Ryan Crawford, told the newspaper on Friday: "I'm glad she decided to do the right thing. Finally, the lies had to stop.

Crawford was named the sole chief restaurateur of this 10-year-old man.

"Medical abuse is underreported every day," the father added. "Now it's time to go ahead and ensure that no child will suffer the abuse suffered by my son."

Associated Press contributed to this report.
