A man wanted for questioning following a shootout at Samson was captured Sunday night and then died as a result of a self-inflicted bullet wound, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office announced.

"He was arrested an hour ago (about 5:30 pm) on Interstate 65 at Exit 168 and was rushed to the hospital for treatment there from a self-inflicted bullet wound. -inflected, "said Captain George Beaudry, of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. "The hospital declared him dead."

James Chadwick Green was pronounced dead around 6:20 pm, Beaudry told AL.com. Green would be a former Samson police officer, Beaudry said.

The Alabama order forces began looking for him after a Samson woman, Sarah Cooper, died from injuries sustained during a shootout.

Authorities received a call about the suspect vehicle, a red 2017 Toyota truck, on Interstate 85 heading south near Taylor Road, and an assistant followed him. the vehicles did not stop and a chase started.

The lawsuit is over on Interstate 65 heading south on South Boulevard.
