A white Twitch user in Lithuania was launched on the video game streaming platform after trying cosplay live on blackface.
The young woman, Karina "Karupups" Martsinkevich, described a fictional character called Lifeline of the famous "Apex Legends" battle of the royal battle, according to Kotaku.
She told the website that she was running a live makeup tutorial Saturday, which she saw applying a dark background to her face to try to look "similar" to Lifeline.
"On my stream, I wanted to show viewers how difficult it is to get ready for a cosplay, how long makeup, costume and other details can take," Martisinkevich explained in an email.
The idea was worth it to launch Twitch for 30 days, the developers claiming that she had indulged in "a heinous behavior against a person or a group of people". She then posted a photo of her social media outfit.
"So, guys and girls, what do you think about cosplay?" Martsinkevich asked.
The Lithuanian player tried Sunday to explain herself in a YouTube video, saying she did not mean "to be painful for anyone".
"I really wanted to be like her," said Martsinkevich, referring to Lifeline. "It was not supposed to have [sic] a joke of anyone. It was just a cosplay, guys, for my favorite caption of a computer game. "
According to Kotaku, blackface is a long-standing problem in the cosplay community, but the same goes for "whiteface". A number of black cosplayers spoke on the video game site in 2016, claiming that they had been rejected and criticized in white or light-skinned characters.
"It's a lot of internal back and forth," said one person.
