A Wii U party game for kids included A story about a dead father and ghost

Hundreds of miserable party games were developed and released for the Wii and Wii U at the time. They were generally cheap, not as good as Wii Sports and quickly forgotten. But one of these games, Party Champions game, included something very strange. The personal story of a child struggling with the loss of his father and how his father's ghost helped him win the mini-games tournament.

Steve Bowler posted a very interesting thread on Twitter sharing the story behind how all this has happened. He was the main designer of the game.

the Game The series consisted of 4 games and was originally released by Midway Games from the Wii. But after 2009 and after WB Games bought the Midway Library, WB Games wanted another Game Title. They were inexpensive to manufacture and sold well. But, according to Bowler, WB Games wanted something different this time. They wanted a story mode. It was a strange choice for a game that would cost $ 20 and that would most likely be bought by grandparents as a last minute gift. But Bowler, who was already tired of working on such games, decided to take this opportunity and ran with it.

Bowler wrote a storyline for the story mode that other people working on the game would describe asFight Club, for children. "The story was serious and would be dark and strange, but the real revelation of that would not happen before the end of the match. And then the unexpected happened, WB Games approved the script.

"When Joel told me at our next meeting," Hey, I loved your scripting. I sent it to WB with my blessing and they immediately approved it. 'I felt a bit like escaping murder. Because like, I snuck into the weirdest story mode of all board games, NEVER, "tweeted Bowler.

The story is pretty innocuous at first. The main character is silent, because of the low budget of the game. They have a friend named Jace who convinces them to stop being mopey and to participate in a mini-games tournament. In a fairly early cinematic in the game, it is revealed, in this collection of children's board games, that Jace actually tries to help the main character overcome his father's loss.

Things continue to get stranger than the story mode of the game continues. Jace only speaks and interacts with the main character and nobody else. No other character speaks or interacts with Jace. At the very end of the game, it is finally revealed that Jace is actually the ghost of the main character's father.

"He's trying to motivate his child to love getting out of the couch and doing something with himself," Bowler explained.

The actor Yuri Lowenthal expressed the deceased father. He recently voiced Peter Parker in the PS4 Spider Man According to Bowler, when he read the script, he was shocked and amused to find that Bowler had this script approved by WB Games.

The main character of the game is called Riley and takes its name from the daughter of Steve Bowler. He had wanted to record videos of life lessons so that she could watch him after his death.. So, instead, he put a lot of these life lessons into a board game for the Wii U.

Few people remember this game. Even fewer players have already seen the end of Party Champions game. One of the few players who managed to reach the end also recorded it and reacted in the end.

"I'm so sad, what about Jace?

He left. He left.

But we will always have the skee ball trophy to remember him.
