INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – According to the authorities, a woman and two children died in a fire accident involving seven vehicles on a highway in Indianapolis.

State police announced that crews had responded Sunday noon to the accident on the I-46 highway heading east, signaling that a vehicle was on fire and that several people had been injured.

Police said a preliminary investigation had revealed that a semitrailer semi-trailer had struck the back of a line of vehicles stranded in traffic due to construction work. The first car caught fire. The Indianapolis Fire Department said that one woman and two children had been found dead in this vehicle.

In total, the police said that seven other people had been transported to hospitals, including one person described as being in critical condition.

The accident is under investigation. Police said that dangerous speed was a factor.
