A woman is under arrest for using a pistol to terrorize a man who was held captive in a home, tied up and physically assaulted for nearly two weeks, the Texas Sheriff's Office said on Friday.
The unidentified, 59-year-old man was found Wednesday in a residence near his place of detention, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office said in a press release. The authorities found him while he was answering a 911 call concerning a domestic disturbance involving a weapon.
The man was held captive since February 14, according to the statement.
"The victim was tied up and confined to the residence, receiving only limited food and water, and was physically assaulted several times," the statement said.
He was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he was treated for several injuries sustained during his alleged imprisonment.
Authorities arrested a 43-year-old woman suspected of serious kidnapping. She is currently held in a Franklin County jail, located about two hours east of Dallas. Mount Vernon is its headquarters.
The woman allegedly used a pistol to "control and terrorize" the victim and would have discharged her several times during her two weeks of captivity.
The sheriff's office did not disclose any information about the suspect's identity or the fact that he was formally charged.
Investigators were informed that representatives of a religious group, possibly Jehovah's Witnesses, could have gone to the victim's home during his detention. Franklin County Sheriff Ricky Jones asks anyone who visited the home between Feb. 14 and Feb. 27 to contact the Sheriff's Office.
