A woman dies after being shot while driving in the east of Iowa

Authorities are investigating the death of a woman who was shot while driving in northeastern Iowa.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls mail reports that the shooting occurred on Highway 218, in the suburbs of Waterloo, around 2:30 am Sunday.

The Waterloo police said a bullet had hit a woman's neck while she was driving. The ball continued to hit one of the woman's male passengers and hurt him.

Paramedics were called after the woman stopped along the road. She died on the spot.

The identity of the woman and her injured passenger was not immediately revealed Sunday.

The highway has reopened since the shooting, but police were looking for evidence in the area.
