The Connecticut medical examiner said that the woman found dead in a suitcase along a road in February was suffocated.

The bureau confirmed Monday that homicide asphyxiation was the cause of the death of Valerie Reyes, 24, of New Rochelle, New York. The office did not specify whether she had died before being in the suitcase.

On February 5, employees from the city of Greenwich found his body. She had been missing by her family six days earlier.

His former boyfriend, Javier Da Silva Rojas, of New York, is currently being held under a federal charge of kidnapping that resulted in death. If he is found guilty, he faces the death penalty.

His lawyers did not comment, but he told the police after his arrest that Reyes had fallen and hit his head.
