GREAT RAPIDS, Mich. – A woman who pleaded guilty to driving her 9-year-old son while she was filing him at the Michigan School had been sentenced to 30 days in jail.
Tiffany Kosakowski, 36, told the Kent County Court of Appeal, in Grand Rapids, that she "had to live with it until the end of her days".
Judge Curt Benson sentenced her Thursday to 6 months in prison, with a suspension of all but 30 days. He called his actions "simply inexcusable".
Kosakowski's son was suspended by the passenger-side entrance door for nearly 48 meters in December at the parking lot of the Chandler Woods Charter Academy in Belmont before losing his grip and being crushed. Authorities say that he did not want to stay in school.
The boy survived but suffered traumatic brain injury.
