32-year-old New York woman jailed for 23 years for hacking aunt to death with meat cleaver and raping teenage parent three times

A New York woman was sentenced to 23 years in prison for hacking her aunt to death with a meat cleaver and raping a teenage parent.
Elizabeth Sanchez, 32, was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to the murder of her aunt Maria Palaguachi in 2017 in their home in Queens.
She also pleaded guilty to raping her parent, under the age of 15, three times.
Sanchez, also known as Digna Sanchez-Ortiz, was arrested shortly after her aunt's death in March 2017.

She hacked her aunt with the meat cleaver and hit her several times to the head, back and shoulder.
The body of the victim was found in a pool of blood in her daughter's room.
The police had gone home a few days earlier as a result of a family conflict between the victim and her husband.
It was the seventh time the police were called home.
Queens District acting attorney, John M. Ryan, said Sanchez had been taken care of by her aunt while she had no other place to stay.
"This accused brutally put the life of his close relative, the one who took her home while the woman had no place of residence," he said.
In March 2017, she hacked her aunt with the meat cleaver and hit her several times in the head, back and shoulder.
She also pleaded guilty to raping her parent, under the age of 15, three times at home (above) between December 2016 and March 2017.
"This brutal attack has traumatized a whole family.
"In addition to that, the defendant also admitted to having raped a teen parent on several occasions."
Sanchez raped his male parent between December 2016 and March 2017.
In June, she pleaded guilty to first degree manslaughter and second degree rape.
The judge sentenced Sanchez to at least 23 years in prison and five years of supervision after release.
"Today's conviction punishes the accused for her criminal acts and, hopefully, will close this family," Ryan said.
