Martinez said that one of the customs officials had asked him what was in his bag of fish, which prompted the chef to make a dry joke.

"Flesh bones," said Martinez, the Times reported.

Following the joke, Martinez said the customs officers took him to a private interrogation room where he was asked for more information about what he was planning to do piranhas.

Customs officials confirmed to Fox News that this stopover was simply part of a routine procedure when exotic animals are found in the passengers' luggage.
