Chef Virgilio Martinez may want to leave his predatory fish at home next time.
The world-renowned Peruvian chef, who appeared in Netflix's "Chef's Table" series, landed at Los Angeles International Airport last week with 40 vacuum-packed piranhas in his bag.

Martinez told the Los Angeles Times that he hoped to serve the fish, known for his sharp teeth and his menacing look, at the Los Angeles food festival.
"I was extremely obsessed with the idea of bringing piranhas because we serve piranhas in the Amazon at the center, so I said:" Guys, why do not you take the risk of bringing piranhas to Los Angeles? " in Lima, Peru.
However, his risky gesture made him stop by customs agents at the airport.

Martinez said that one of the customs officials had asked him what was in his bag of fish, which prompted the chef to make a dry joke.
"Flesh bones," said Martinez, the Times reported.
Following the joke, Martinez said the customs officers took him to a private interrogation room where he was asked for more information about what he was planning to do piranhas.
Customs officials confirmed to Fox News that this stopover was simply part of a routine procedure when exotic animals are found in the passengers' luggage.
"I took my [Central cookbook] and said, "Look, here's what I want to do with piranhas." And he finally said, "Oh, wow, go ahead," Martinez told The Times.

After five hours of interrogation, Martinez was able to leave with his bag filled with fish, which he had used on a salad that night.
