Aaron Rodgers kept Jordan Love in the loop while reflecting on his future

The selection of Aaron Rodgers by the Packers in 2005 was not warmly received in the quarterback. Brett Favre, then a 35-year-old starter, once said, “My contract doesn’t say I have to prepare Aaron Rodgers to play. Now I hope he looks at me and gets something out of it.

Rodgers spent three years behind Favre and obviously learned something, having won three MVP awards and one Super Bowl MVP.

All of this to say that Rodgers has been where Jordan Love is, and Rodgers seems to have taken his heir under his wing, having been where Jordan Love is.

Love has spent this offseason preparing as if he is about to start, with Rodgers’ future with the Packers uncertain as he skipped the team’s offseason schedule.

Rodgers said he tried to put himself in Love’s shoes.

“And then I just held out my hand; I held out my hand several times [to] check on him [and] see how he’s doing, ”Rodgers said, via ESPN’s Rob Demovsky. “I wasn’t hiding anything from him. I let him know where I was mentally and what I was thinking, and I hope he enjoyed that.

“I just felt that was what I wanted in this situation, just to hear from the guy. And also, there’s a love and an appreciation and a friendship there, just like it was with me and Brett. So I wanted to make sure to check in with him and let him know I was thinking of him.

Rodgers has said on several occasions that his grievances against the Packers were nothing personal against Love, who had no say in the selection of the Packers in the first round of the 2020 Draft.

“I have a lot of respect and love for Jordan, and I understand what he’s been through must be tough,” Rodgers said. “I lived it for two years in the offseason, in ’06 and ’07, I was the guy the whole offseason, going through quarterback school, going through most of the OTAs, in taking all the reps, then here’s Favrey coming back – and obviously I’m back on the bench. Luckily I’ve been there and can figure out what he’s going through a bit, so I’m trying to keep that in mind. All the time.
