Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers hasn’t said anything about his plans or the 2021 season, despite training camp opening next week. Don’t expect Rodgers to reveal his plans until the last minute.
It is not a matter of procrastination. Rodgers definitely knows what he’s doing. But he has no reason to disclose his plans, for a very important reason.
The Packers will hold their annual meeting of shareholders on Monday. Team CEO Mark Murphy will address the gathered fans. This will become their first opportunity to express their feelings about the chaos and uncertainty of the past three months, sparked by the draft day disclosure that the 49ers attempted to trade for Rodgers, followed by a storm of reports indicating the reality that Rodgers wants apart.
He always wants to go out. It hasn’t changed. Both parties are responsible for this. As of Monday, with Rodgers’ status still unresolved, Murphy and not Rodgers will have to deal with it. And Rodgers won’t do anything to make it easier for Murphy.
Hey, that’s how it goes when you’re dealing with a “complicated guy”.
