ABC: two new seasons of Gray's Anatomy

The medical drama hit ABC The anatomy of Gray had a 15th historic season. Having reached the 300th episode of the previous year, the series has exceeded ER This is the oldest primetime medical drama as of its 332nd episode in February. But that does not slow down: Gray's has been officially renewed for two more seasons. Here is what you need to know.

The anatomy of Gray started in 2005

The show that started everything (ie Shondaland, TGIT and many others) started in 2005. Created by Shonda Rhimes, The anatomy of Gray Meredith Gray, a trainee in surgery at Seattle Grace Hospital, is trying to make her own way after her mother, award-winning doctor Ellis Gray.

The series quickly garnered a large audience; Fans agreed week after week to witness a love story between Meredith and resident Derek Shepherd, friendships were forged between the group of trainees and, of course, medical miracles and disasters have accelerated.

Many things have changed over the years

When a series is so long, things will necessarily change, especially distribution. Ellen Pompeo (Meredith), Justin Chambers (Alex Karev), James Pickens Jr. (Richard Webber) and Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey) are the only remaining actors from the original team. Patrick Dempsey (Derek), Sandra Oh (Cristina Yang) and Katherine Heigl (Izzie Stevens) were numerous.

Today, the main cast includes ten actors, including the four founding stars mentioned above, as well as Jesse Williams (Jackson Avery), Kevin McKidd (Owen Hunt) and Kelly McCreary (Maggie Pierce). Season 15 saw Kim Raver (Teddy Altman) return to the main cast – she had already played in Seasons 6-8. He also marked the release of Martin Henderson (Nathan Riggs), Sarah Drew (April Kepner) and Jessica Capshaw (Arizona Robbins).

The anatomy of Gray just got some exciting news

Although rumors have been circulating for years about the extension of the series, this is obviously not the case. At least not yet. On May 10, 2019, ABC announced that The anatomy of Gray had been renewed not for one but two seasons, which means it will be on air until spring 2021.

The actors were of course delighted to celebrate this news. In addition, the showrunner Krista Vernoff, who succeeded Rhimes in 2014, also celebrated her new role as firefighter spin-off showrunner Station 19, that she will lead alongside Gray's.

The casting has also changed a little

Once again, there is more news about the cast on the table. Actors Jake Borelli (Levi Schmitt), Greg Germann (Thomas Koracick) and Chris Carmack (Atticus "Link" Lincoln), all of whom were recurring characters, were reclassified to the main cast. They and their colleagues were happy to share this news.

However, some news is not yet revealed: if one of the main members of the current cast will leave the series. As the final will not be broadcast until May 16th, this is an information that must remain secret because it could spoil the end of the season. Hope all our favorites will stay a year yet, but with The anatomy of Gray, you never know.
