ALAMEDA, Calif. – The safety of Oakland Raiders rookies, Johnathan Abram, this year's 27th overall draft pick, will undergo a shoulder operation and will likely miss the rest of the season, announced Wednesday. coach Jon Gruden.

Gruden said that Abram would be placed in the reserve of the wounded.

"Blow hard for our team," said Gruden.

Abram was injured in the first quarter of the Raiders' 24-16 win over the Denver Broncos on Monday night. Abram, who finished with five tackles and a defensive pass by taking part in 49 of the 64 defensive attempts, was also on the field for four special teams selections. He was not credited with a tackle in the first quarter.

"We will consider this year as a year of redshirt," said Gruden.

For the match, Abram was reported twice, once for illegal contact and another time to lower the helmet in order to make contact. At the second penalty, Abram accidentally kicked his teammate Stationon Conley on top of the helmet, which allowed Conley to be strapped to a stretcher and out of bounds.

After the match, Abram did not seem affected and did not suffer anymore in his locker.

"It's the identity we're trying to bring back: fast, physical and aggressive," Abram said at the time. "You're going through the middle, we're going to hit you in. There are some pieces we've left there, I know I really want to come back, and I know the other guys share the same feeling."

Wednesday morning, however, Abram went on Twitter:

Abram entered the NFL with a reputation as a hard hitter.

Asked about Abram during his weekly press conference Tuesday, Raiders coach Jon Gruden did not mention any injuries when he talked about his missed tackles.

"I think he's probably become a little too reckless at times," said Gruden. "He did some good games, some impact games and, of course, I think he had to tackle a few tackles. He missed his debut. But his debut was pretty good And I think it was suspicious to play in the league the first week of the season the movies I saw. Many of these guys did not play much. Not feel like training, so I think it's going to pick up again a week or two ago. "

Lamarcus Joyner is listed as the co-starter of free security with Abram, but Joyner is usually the half-corner of the Raiders' nickel defense. With Abram, veteran Curtis Riley could intervene safely.
