"Absurd": J.A. Yankees Happ riposte at the Mariners, Dee Gordon

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – J.A. Happ did not mince his words.

The Yankees starting pitcher said he thought it was ridiculous for Dee Gordon's reaction to Happ catching him in a 3-1 win over the Mariners at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday.

"I offended myself. I think it's absurd, "said Friday afternoon's Happ at Tropicana Field, before the Yankees faced the Rays.

Happ said that he was just pointing in and that he was surprised that the second baseman said he was "pissed off" against him. Gordon said that he was angry because it was the second time that Happ had thrown him in and almost hit him.

"I have a family," Gordon said, according to reports.

Happ made it clear that he was not trying to hit Gordon, who left the game after being touched. He pointed out that he played with Gordon's father, Tom, when they were with the Phillies, and it was not like he had the history of hitting the batters.

"I'd like to think that he was shocked by his emotions when he said it," said Happ. "I would like to make him enjoy the doubt. I played with his father. I've been doing this for a little while. It's a bit like an insult against me. Using each side of the plate is the way the game has been played for the last 150 years. I think it was a little embarrassing and disappointed that it was even a headline. I would like to think that he regrets to have said but maybe not.

Happ said he did not think there would be much reason to contact Gordon.

"I do not think I need to say anything about it," said Happ.

"It was not even close to his head, it was an argument in letters and a little behind the plate, he was trying to get in. If I do not go there, how am I? I supposed to get to the I do not think it's necessary to speak. If I hit it higher, I'll apologize, but it happens too.But I was not still not so close.

"I do not think there is anything I need to say, I think that he was caught in the present moment." I think he was frustrated I do not know if he 's hurt or he' s going to run out of time or not but it 's never I need to try to run and I feel that that's what I was trying to do. "
