According to US Customs, images of travelers exposed during a cyberattack

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) states that images of travelers – which they probably collected at ports of entry – were revealed during a malicious cyber attack.

The federal agency said Monday that pictures of license plates had also been exposed during an attack that had compromised the computer network of a subcontractor.

It did not specify the number of images that could have been copied and indicated that none of the data had been identified on the Internet or Dark Web.

CBP has not named the contractor. On May 31, the subcontractor had transferred copies of the images to his corporate network, in violation of government policies and without the permission of the agency.

CBP said that he had alerted members of Congress.
