The New York Mets took care of a big question mark on Tuesday, signing right-handed Jacob deGrom's victory at a five-year contract extension, the team said.
League sources confirmed to ESPN that the expansion was worth $ 137.5 million. SNY was the first to report the terms of the agreement.

For the benefit of the franchise, its new general manager, its fans and its players, this agreement was to be concluded.

Two days later, the Mets pitcher, Noah Syndergaard, said he was no longer eager to make the trip to Syracuse – "not even the least bit" – he ran around the Carrier Dome in holding up a big flag of Syracuse University.

DeGrom, 30, was earning $ 17 million this season and was eligible for arbitration in 2020. The extension replaces his current contract and cancels arbitration. The contract includes a waiver after 2022 and a club option for 2024, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN. If the option is withheld, the total amount of the six-year deal will rise to $ 170 million, according to sources. The agreement includes a complete non-exchange clause.
Its new agreement provides for a $ 10 million signing bonus, half of which will be paid in January 2020 and the rest in January 2021. It receives a salary of $ 7 million this season, $ 23 million in 2020, 33 , $ 5 million each in 2021 and 2022 and $ 30.5 million in 2023. The Mets have an option of $ 32.5 million for 2024.

DeGrom, 30, was the big winner in the vote at the BN Cy Young Award. He went just 10-9, but had 269 strikeouts over the 32 starts, receiving little support from a fourth-place team that finished 77-85. His 10 wins were the lowest by a pitcher to win the Cy Young Award.
He will face the finalist of the Cy Young Award Max Scherzer at the opening day while the Mets go Thursday to the Washington Nationals.
Teammate Noah Syndergaard expressed frustration at the deGrom contract negotiations on Sunday.
"Jake is the best baseball pitcher right now, I think he deserves what he deserves, I want to make him happy, so when it comes time for him to find a place at liberty, he stays by our side for the Mets I Just think they should leave all this fuss and already pay the man, "said Syndergaard.
DeGrom had a dominant 2018 season. His ERA was the fifth lowest by a pitcher in a single season since lowering the mound in 1969. He was the second pitcher since deserved points became official in both leagues in 1913 with a total of less than 2.00, more than 50 walks in one season. Pedro Martinez was the other in 2000.
