Activision Blizzard has "very big ambitions for the Overwatch universe"

Activision Blizzard is looking for ways to further develop the Overwatch franchise, according to Blizzard's boss, Allen Brack.

"Last quarter, I explained that Overwatch's goal was ambitious and could evolve over time," Brack told investors at the company's last earnings call (ChercheAlpha, via PCGN) earlier this week.

"Overwatch is a huge franchise for Blizzard and we continue to devote resources and attention to it, so we can continue to grow the community and franchise over time."

To achieve this, Brack said that while continuing "to add new heroes, new maps and new experiences" during the next financial period 2019/2020, the team is currently working on the existing game. […] focusing on the other work that they have ".

While new maps and characters are now commonplace, what is more intriguing is Brack's use of the term "other work" and the way the phrase is used in the context of "Existing game". Could this indicate a new Overwatch project, such as a sequel or derivative title? What other activities could move the development team away from the "existing game"?

Whatever it is, we probably should not hold our breath. Blizzard has already confirmed will not see anything of them at this year's gamescomIt is therefore unlikely that we will soon discover what the studio has in mind.
