Director-actor Nishikant Kamat died at AIG Hospital in Hyderabad on Monday after a battle with cirrhosis of the liver. He was 50 years old.
In a statement, AIG Hospital said: “Mr. Nishikant Kamat (50, male) was admitted to AIG hospitals on July 31, 2020 with complaints of fever and excessive fatigue. He was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver for the past two years. Initially, we started antibiotics and supportive medications which Mr. Kamat showed improvement in, but his condition rapidly deteriorated with progressive liver dysfunction and drowsiness. He was immediately transferred to intensive care, where his general condition gradually declined. Since yesterday, he has developed respiratory failure and hypotension. Despite the maximum efforts of hepatologists, gastroenterologists, pulmonologists and intensivists, his condition deteriorated, which ultimately led to the failure of several organs. Today, starting in the afternoon, his vital signs began to decline and at 4:24 p.m. he succumbed to his illness. Our condolences go out to his family, friends and fans.
Nishikant Kamat made his directorial debut in 2005 with the film Marathi Dombivali Fast, which won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi. He made his big screen debut in 2004 with the Hindi film Hava Aney Dey. In 2008, Kamat made his first Bollywood film Mumbai Meri Jaan.
Nishikant Kamat has carved his own space in Bollywood over the years. He has directed Hindi films like Force, Drishyam, Rocky Handsome and Madaari. Kamat was also known for his performances in Daddy, Rocky Handsome, Julie 2 and Bhavesh Joshi.

Nishikant Kamat did not limit himself to films. He also tried other mediums. He was the creative producer of The Final Call and Rangbaaz Phirse web series.
