Actor was on a horse making new movie at 60 – deadline

Jay Pickett, known for his work in soap operas General hospital and Port Charles, died of unknown causes on Friday at the age of 60. Pickett was on site in Idaho to shoot the movie Valley of treasures when he died on horseback, according to actor and friend Jim Heffel.

“Yesterday I lost a good friend and the world lost a great person. Jay Pickett decided to go to heaven. Jay died sitting on a horse ready to rope an ox in the movie Treasure Valley, Idaho. The way of a real cowboy, ”Heffel said of Pickett, who both co-produced the film alongside Travis Mills.

Mills in a post he shared on the film’s official Facebook page paid tribute to Pickett.

“Many of you have already heard of the tragedy that happened two days ago,” he wrote on Sunday. “Jay Pickett, our main man, writer, producer and creator of this film passed away suddenly while we were there preparing to film a scene. There is no official explanation for the cause of his death, but there is appears to be a heart attack. Everyone present did their best to keep him alive. Our hearts are broken and we mourn his family who are so devastated by this shocking tragedy. “

Pickett was born in Spokane, Washington in 1961 and raised in Caldwell, Idaho. During his college years, he focused on becoming an actor; he received his bachelor’s degree in performance from Boise State University and his master’s degree in performance from UCLA with a major in theater at both institutions.

He has made appearances over the years on many popular TV shows, including China Beach, Dredge, Mr. Belvédère, Perry mason, and Days of our lives before getting a gig on the ABC soap opera Port Charles as Frank Scanlon in 1997. He followed this with a recurring role in General hospital.

He is survived by his wife Elena and their three children.
