Adam Levine is still mourning the devastating death of his director and childhood friend, Jordan Feldstein.

The Maroon 5 frontman of 39 years is named VarietyHitmaker of the year 2018, and in the interview that accompanies him, he talks about taking control of his career after the sudden death of Feldstein last December. Feldstein, who was the older brother of actor Jonah Hill, died of natural causes due to the blockage of an artery to his lungs and a blood clot in his leg. The coroner's coroner from Los Angeles County also cited obesity and pneumonia as contributing factors to his death.

"It was a tragedy we faced, and by far one of the saddest moments of our lives, and personally of mine," says Levine. "She's a child I've known since we wear diapers, and she's been one of the most important people in my life since I was young."

Levine says that he thinks of Feldstein every day.

"It will always be something missing in my life," he shares. "I break down, I'm crying, we built this together, and it will never be complete without him, but at the same time, we know he wants us to carry on."

The father of two was forced to make difficult decisions about the future of Maroon 5 after Feldstein's death, and chose Feldstein's business partner Irving Azoff and manager Adam Harrison to help. to assist in the management of the group. He self-manages himself up to a certain point and says that he does not appeal to the record company when it comes to making decisions regarding the music of Maroon 5.

"I'm almost 40 years old and I've been doing it for a long time," he notes. "I do not need a babysitter."

"It was brutal," he admits about the restructuring of his management team after Feldstein's death. "When all this fell, I remember having to dig deep and tell myself: 'Will I just drop this case, or will I try to keep this thing together?' In chaotic situations that are so horrible and heartbreaking, you have to introduce yourself, you know? "

Levine's decisions have already proved judicious, and he reveals that he had to beg that their mega hit "Girls Like You," featuring Cardi B, will feature on their latest album, a last minute addition. He also talked about the importance of video, in which Levine celebrated the empowerment of women with celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Ellen DeGeneres and Gal Gadot. The musician explains that having two daughters with his wife Behati Prinsloo – two-year-old Dusty and Gio, 9 months old – put him in touch with the fate of women.

"I have two young girls and thinking about their abuse has always boiled my blood," he says. "So we started because I thought that as long as I stayed close to my heart with this concept, I could never be wrong … In the video, I did it for my children and my wife. ** k "em."

As to whether Maroon 5 will play its biggest concert in its history – the Super Bowl Halftime show next year – despite the controversy surrounding NFL players who knelt during the national anthem to protest against racial inequality and police brutality, Levine remains mysterious. A source told ET in October that Rihanna had denied the great opportunity to show solidarity with Colin Kaepernick and the other players.

"I still make a lot of things," says Levine only.

the Voice The coach is 40 years old in March and says he has already done everything he always wanted.

"Take it!" he says about the milestone age. "I mean, I do not know, what else do I want? I have a nice family, a beautiful woman, two beautiful babies, and I have the money in the bank, and I'm really happy about my career, my accomplishments and the person I have become and the person I hope to stay in. C & # 39; is too intimidating to imagine anything else .. I have the feeling of having already accomplished something other than my wildest dreams. "
