The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Adam Schiff, said Sunday that he would not stop insisting that there was evidence of collusion between the President Trump and Russia.
"What I said from the beginning, is that the evidence that concerns me is at hand." And I used these words probably a hundred times, "said the California Democrat to" CNN's "State of the Union".
"If the fact that the president called the Russians to hack Hillary [Clinton]Emails from, if the fact that Don [Trump] Jr. said that he would like to get help from the Russians – all of this is at hand – if Republicans think it's perfectly fine because it does not constitute a conspiracy crime, we are going to separate, "he said, and I will not stop saying that we should impose on our president, our campaigns and our elected officials a level higher than that of simple criminality.
Schiff's insistence on collusion has become a flash point between Democrats and Republicans, particularly after special advocate Robert Mueller presented his final report last month. Mueller has not established the existence of a plot between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin, according to a summary by Attorney General William Barr.
In a colossal gesture to show their frustration, all Republicans of the House Intelligence Committee called on Schiff to resign from his presidential post last month because they had "no confidence" in his leadership, given his repeated claims he was "more than circumstantial evidence" with Russia.
Schiff, who has the support of Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives of D-Calif., Attributed this partisan fracture to a blind loyalty to Trump.
"Look, I think there is a different standard here between Republicans and Democrats," Schiff said. "Republicans seem to think that as long as you can not prove that it's a crime, then everything is a righteous love and a war, that all is well, what the Trump administration, the Trump campaign made."
Schiff asked that the Mueller report of about 400 pages be published in Congress without deletion.
