The Cubs will promote Triple-A Iowa's Addison Russell infielder ahead of their Wednesday night game against the Marlins at Wrigley Field.
Russell, who recently served a 40-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball's domestic violence policy, was not in Iowa's Wednesday draw against Memphis.
Russell, who was opted for Iowa after the completion of his suspension, beat .222 with two doubles, three innings and 13 points produced in Triple A.
He was the Cubs at the start of stopovers for the past three and a half seasons before being put on administrative leave on September 21 after his ex-wife, Melisa Reidy, claimed to have been physically and mentally assaulted on social media .
Russell's promotion should be one of the Cubs' many moves before the match, which was pushed to 6:35 pm. because of the threat of rain.
David Kaplan of NBC Chicago reported for the first time that Russell was in Chicago and would be promoted.
