Although it is fairly rare that software bugs are damaging modern hardware, a bug in the Adobe Premiere Pro video editing software has permanently destroyed the user's MacBook Pro speakers. Yes, you read it well. This software bug could permanently damage the built-in speakers of the laptop.

The problem has been reported on the Adobe support forum by several users. The laptops concerned all seem to be the latest MacBook Pro 15 inch 2018 laptops.
Here is an overview of what happened, from the forum user andripeetso:
I have a new MBP of 15 "aged 2 months.I was working on a project, the volume of the macbook was about half, then an audio bug came up with a very powerful screatching. [sic] the noise and not let me pause. After stopping, the speakers were very quiet and after the next restart, they were clearly whistled. Initially, I blamed the hardware, although the same thing happened a day later with my Sony 1000X-M3 headset. Fortunately, the helmet is ok, but it even gave me a heart attack.
The situation is not satisfactory, I am not happy. The Adobe Customer Service Chat is ridiculous.
There are more than half a dozen other reports reporting a similar problem.
Adobe support has responded to this problem as follows:
A small number of user reports of a problem in Adobe Premiere Pro that may affect the speakers of the latest MacBook Pro. Adobe has released a fix via the Creative Cloud application to help fix this problem. Please update to 13.0.3.
MacBook Pro users are strongly encouraged to apply this update.
It is not yet clear whether Adobe will pay the bill for the damaged hardware, although I suspect that if the company does not fix it quickly, it will face a lawsuit similar to the one that followed a bug of delete the cache. resulted in the deletion of a photographer's multimedia files.
