Adobe Premiere Pro is now ready for anyone using a Mac M1. Support for Apple’s new chips is rolling out today, following its beta launch in December. Adobe says there are speed increases throughout the app, from a 50% faster launch to 77% faster “edit”, whatever that giant term is.
Apple released its first computers with M1 chips in November. While they are capable of running applications designed for machines with Intel processors, the programs had to be updated to take full advantage of the M1’s speed improvements. Engaging Adobe has always been a necessity – its apps are essential creative tools for many industries – and luckily Adobe has been quick enough to get updates for its larger apps. Lightroom for M1 launched in December, Photoshop for M1 launched in March, and Lightroom Classic, Illustrator, and InDesign for M1 launched in June. Adobe Character Animator and Media Encoder also get M1 support today.
Premiere Pro also receives other feature updates in its July release. The most important is a text-to-speech feature, previously in beta, capable of automatically generating a video transcript. There is also a new caption customization feature that allows you to adjust how this text may appear on your video.
