Goergen’s petition garnered nearly 5,000 signatures. Yet the second stimulus checks of $ 600 authorized by Congress in December continued to exclude individuals from that cohort, despite some calls from both sides of the aisle to change those conditions.
Earlier estimates from the American Enterprise Institute indicated that the expansion of stimulus payments to dependent adults could make up to 26 million more people eligible for the money.

“It seemed like a really big oversight,” Goergen said.

The House Ways and Means Committee has called for basing payments on 2019 or 2020 tax returns.
