AFC Rumors: Williams, Chiefs, OBJ, Patriots

Adam gas insisted it Jets did not exchange Quinnen Williams, but that hasn’t stopped the teams from learning about a potential trade. The Jets received inquiries from several teams about their outstanding defensive tackle ahead of last week’s trade deadline, according to ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter. Although GM Joe douglas was not with the team when the Jets selected Williams – in a draft in which Gase was not exactly in tune with former GM Mike Maccagnan – the team considers ex-Alabama’s talent and positional value too important to be traded. After a less impactful rookie year, Williams broke through as a sophomore in the NFL. He’s got three sacks and seven tackles for the loss – already improving his 2019 numbers.

• the Chefs‘ Andy reid-The front office has undergone changes, thanks to the executive talent that the organization has amassed. Ryan Poles may well be about to follow Chris Ballard and Brett Veach at a GM job, with ESPN.com’s Field Yates noting (via Twitter) the current Chiefs executive is firmly on GM’s radar. The Chiefs have promoted the Poles twice in the past three years, transferring him to the post of director of college scouting in 2017 and deputy director of player personnel a year later. If the Poles land a post of managing director, the chiefs would be entitled to a third round allowance.
• Odell Beckham Jr. underwent successful ACL surgery on Tuesday, Brown ad. The team expect OBJ to be ready for the 2021 season. It is unclear whether the 28-year-old will, in fact, be with the Browns for the ’21 campaign. Her contract until 2023 does not contain any guaranteed money, and her star has certainly fallen since she moved from New York to Cleveland. Beckham landed in trade rumors last year and this offseason, and rumors have resurfaced about the Browns dealing with the John dorsey-will be acquired in 2021.
• When Sony michel returns from IR, it is unlikely that the third year Patriots return will resume its previous role. Damien harris stood out in training camp and has played well since his debut. The 2019 third-round pick shouldn’t lose his starring role in the New England backfield, writes ESPN.com’s Mike Reiss. Harris suffered a chest injury on Monday, but it remains to be seen if the former Alabama back will be missed at any time. Harris is averaging 5.6 yards per carry this season. While Michel is at 6.7, it is on only 26 bins. The former first-round pick’s career YPC average stands at 4.2.
