JOHANNESBURG – Ann Ashworth, winner of the 2018 Comrades Marathon, faces a plethora of accusations against her by Athletics South Africa (ASA).
Ashworth is no stranger to the controversy with the ASA that is now reacting to the criticism of the federation athlete. The winner of 2018 has since confirmed the receipt of an indictment which, when it is broken down into three charges, contains up to nine charges
"I will firmly defend all accusations that are purely an attempt at tyranny and intimidation. That's their way of keeping me quiet, "Ashworth told Times Live Local Media.
The disciplinary measure, which could see her banished from the sport, seems to be a direct result of the athlete's refusal to take his place in the national team selected for the 100km world championships.
"Thank you @ASAathletics but until you start doing something to help the riders of our country with funding and other supports, I'm not happy At that time, Ashworth faces accusations of discrediting the sport and the ASA, ASA also claims that Ashworth competed at the comrades without adequate papers. Allegation of pace after it appears that her husband, David, was running beside her for periods of comrades making her "guilty of going back and forth or receiving physical badistance."
This is despite any formal complaint filed after the race. The strength of the ASA case is yet to be established with a number of statements lacking explanation.
