Ntini leads U19 ODI SA's victory over England

Cape Town – Half a Century by Jonathan Bird and an Impressive, Four-wicket by Thando Ntini led the convincing 79-run victory of Africa South on England in the opening of the Youth One-Day series in Durham on Monday.

Visitors go one-nine in the three-game clash

Bird smashed a 47-ball 51, while Ntini returned remarkable 4/19 numbers in his eight-over spell for get their side off at a start of confidence

South Africa posted a competitive 229/9 at the end of their overs allocated after they were put in first place. Bird seized his opportunity with both hands and played the attacker in his 54-point stand, second box with Thamsanqa Khumalo, after losing Joshua Richards (5) to Jack Plom (1/43) in the fourth end.

The runs sank on the visitors' side even after the losses of Bird and Khumalo (16) thanks to the 30s of captain Wandile Makwetu (39th) and Sinethemba Qeshile (32nd). Curtis Campher gave the momentum impulse with an undefeated 43 off on 55 deliveries (3x4s, 1×6) after a double strike in the 30 on saw Jordan Cook (4/30) removing Jason Niemand and Jade of Klerk for eight and none respectively.

Campher was leading the charge with a stirring South African tail, adding together 63 points to the scoreboard after they were left on 166/7 in the 37 plus. Ntini and Spinner Kgaudise Molefe, with 12 and 8 points each.

The two partners clashed to give a good start to England, reducing the hosts to 3/6 in the first three overs of their response. Ntini got the first breakthrough, followed by Molefe's double-shot (2/29) while Ben Charlsworth, Harrison Ward and Jack Haynes were dispatched for one run each.

Captain Tom Banton (9) fell to Campher (1/37) early in the 11 leaving the number five drummer Oliver Robinson to chart the way forward. The middle drummer played a big shot, returning the most points for the home team, but his 54 (74 balls) were plagued by box office losses, including that of Jack Davies (6) before become the second victim of Ntini. Ntini and Jade de Klerk (2/18) did the quick work of the remaining drummers, rallying the hosts for 150 with just over 10 overs to spare. Luke Hollman was not absent for 30 deliveries out of 37.
