Cape Town – Springbok No 8 Duane Vermeulen revealed that he had dislocated his shoulder during the first half of Saturday's test against Wales in Cardiff.

Vermeulen continued to play until the 64th minute before being replaced by François Louw.

However, it was a 62th minute incident that became a major topic of conversation after Vermeulen was seen chatting with the fitness coach's microphone, the fitness guru, at the microphone of Springbok.

The incident caused a storm in social media. Some critics have suggested that it would undermine Siya Kolisi's captaincy.

Erasmus Monday said Netwerk24 that Vermeulen simply told him that he was wounded and could not continue.

Vermeulen was treated for a shoulder injury – the probable cause of dislocation – in the 30th minute, which meant he continued to play for nearly 35 minutes with the injury.

This was confirmed by the robust No 8 on Twitter Tuesday.

"It's ok, I broke my shoulder in the first period" Vermeulen wrote.

Erasmus said that he had no choice but to replace Vermeulen.

"I saw how Duane was injured in the shoulder and was holding him, while the doctor and physio were busy looking after the other players.

"Aled did not see him, but he was closest to Duane. So I asked him to ask him if he was ok. Duane could not understand why he was asking and said that he wanted to talk to me quickly himself. He said that his shoulder was too painful to keep playing, "said Bok coach.

That's right since I dislocated my shoulder in the first period. https://t.co/mztL8l3dXb
