With almost every major retailer participating in Black Friday – both physical and online – Cyber Monday tends to focus more on the online space.
Indeed, one of the largest online retailers, Takealot.com, said Sunday (Nov. 25) that it had generated record sales on Black Friday.
Thousands of buyers visited the site, with 68% of them choosing to shop from their mobile phone.
In the first hour, 11.5 million rupees in gross merchandise value (GMV) were generated and at 8:30 am, the retailer exceeded all of its Black Friday 2017 GMV, he said.
The total value of the transaction for Black Friday 2018 on Takealot.com was more than 196 million rand, representing a growth of 125% in GMV and 127% in orders.
