JOHANNESBURG – South Africa will invest more than 13 billion rand in the oil sector in southern Sudan.
Energy Minister Jeff Radebe said an agreement had been reached for the construction of an on-site refinery.
He said that he had the capacity to produce 60,000 barrels of oil a day.
South Sudan's oil sector is currently dominated by Asian companies, including China National Petroleum Corporation and India's Oil and Natural Gas Corporation.
The newest country in Africa has been in the grip of civil war for almost five years now.
