Video: The "misadventure" of the tandem hang-gliding breathtaking

A breathtaking video clip showing a tourist tandem flight in Switzerland was posted on YouTube, revealing the terrible ordeal of a pilot and pbadenger in Interlaken in October.

The pbadenger of the video "Swiss Mishap" which has become viral in the circles of pilots is Chris Gursky, based in Florida, photographer and photographer.

On November 26, he released the breathtaking video of his tandem holiday flight to Interlaken, Switzerland, with the words: "My first time in free flight has turned into an imminent death experience, my safety harness never having been hooked to the glider. For 2 minutes 14 seconds, I had to hang on for life! The landing was difficult, but I lived to tell the story.

Although this incident is a "good sport", all pilots know how close it was to having a serious accident or worse. A professional tandem pilot who does not attach his pbadenger is almost unknown, but has already been, with almost always fatal results.

In 2014, a Canadian tandem glider pilot was jailed after his pbadenger fell 300 meters from his death on a sightseeing flight. Upon landing, the pilot swallowed his camera's data card in an impulsive attempt to conceal evidence.

Before releasing the video of the incident, Gursky, who had fractured his wrist during the emergency landing, published the story of what had happened on his Facebook page on October 23rd.

He wrote:

"So … here is the story behind the photo. The holidays in Switzerland started with hang-gliding. Something we wanted to do both … it was a tandem flight, each with his own pilot.

"Cut in the mountains … the pilots got us into our harnesses, followed by our arms and head and adjusted them. Then we practiced our takeoff run, which was 6 to 8 steps. Almost ran until your feet leave the ground.

"Gail and his pilot took off first … seemed cool like hell. Then my pilot and I lined up to take off. We waited a little while for the updraft to rise, then we ran until we left the edge of the mountain at 4000 feet altitude. I was expecting to be level above the pilot as I went, but soon discovered that my harness was not attached to hang gliding or anything of the sort. ;other….

"My body weight was reduced and I found myself hooked for life. I remember looking down and thinking: that's it. I lost the grip of the right hand, which held a strap on the right shoulder of the driver. He was trying to make a bee line at the landing field as he knew what the situation might bring.

"My left hand was on the crossbar which was finally the landing gear, with one wheel on each side. As we descended for a warm landing, I slowly lost my grip with my right hand as I swayed in the wind with the glider.

"The driver grabbed my hand, but as in the movies, the grip slid slowly until my right hand slipped and I caught another strap on the left side a little bit more." later.

"I ended up holding the bar with the left hand and the bottom of his leg with the right as we approached the ground. I looked down to see my feet hitting first, which tore me off at around 45 mph, as the landing was hot and I was under the landing gear.

"I think the total flight time was about 5 minutes. When I sat down, I knew something was wrong and I saw that my wrist was broken.

"The pilot rushed to me, helped me up and drove me out of the firing range (true). Then I had to climb under two electric gates to access a road, where they had someone come to pick us up to go to the emergency room.

"23:30, the operation ended at 3:30. Left the hospital at 14h this afternoon. No casting, but a wrap and a splint for 6 weeks.

"I'm glad I'm still here to tell the story. Gail's flight was great and she will share the photos when she's ready.

"I still can not see the hang glider on my list until I finish my flight successfully! …… maybe Norway …? "

The tandem driver in the clip is unidentified and Gursky does not support it. "I have gone beyond that phase," he said in a message to Cross Country Magazine. "He did everything he could and more. It's a good guy. "

A representative of BumbleBee Hang Gliding, who offers tandem hang-gliding flights to Interlaken, said they had not participated in the flight. They said the video was "really amazing" and added, "We are of course very happy with the end result for everyone involved."
