Sam Burgess defended his performances at the 2015 Rugby World Cup, claiming that England was crushed due to an "individual egos and selfish players".

South Sydney's South Rabbitoh star, Burgess, played for England in a brief stint at the rugby union, before returning to the NRL, the host nation having been eliminated at the pool stage.

Burgess's performance was criticized and the 29-year-old claimed on Twitter that he was still receiving messages accusing him of three years later, blaming England for failures.

And after sharing a support position, the former Bath Center responded by promising that he would unveil his views on the tournament in the future.

"It seems like I'm getting some tweets about WC Rugby in 2015 … again," Burgess wrote. "If people were watching again the games I've been involved in, you'll see that I'm added to the team.

"What cost us a quick exit is the individual egos and the selfish players who do not follow our leader, which essentially costs the coach and other remarkable men.

"Tournaments are not won by coaching staff or by a player. This requires a commitment from the entire group. I guarantee you this: I was engaged but others had their own agenda.

"I have fond memories of my stint in rugby union and good friends. One day I will tell my version of the story, but for the moment, I love to look at England and I can not wait to see them as they prepare for the CM 2019 in Japan. "

Costs essentially the coach and other great men their jobs. Tournaments are not won by coaching staff or a player. This requires a commitment from the entire group. I guarantee you, I was hired, but others had their own programs. I have good memories of my time in the UK
