Google Expands Quick Link to Simplify Configuration of Bluetooth Audio Devices

One year after the deployment of the technology designed to facilitate the pairing of Bluetooth accessories with Android devices, Google extends its Fast pair ecosystem in many ways.

First, Google says that more headphones and Bluetooth speakers will soon support Fast Pair technology. Second, the company brings Fast Pair to Chromebooks. And third, once you've paired a speaker or headset with a device connected to your Google Account, you'll be able to use it with any supported device connected to your account.

In other words, you can pair a set of Google Pixel Buds with your phone … and you can use them with your tablet and Chromebook without having to go through the pairing process again.

Fast Pair works with devices running Android 6.0 or later, and Chromebook support is scheduled for 2019.

But it does not work with all Bluetooth audio devices – manufacturers need to do some magic before they can use this feature with their hardware.

When Fast Pair was launched for the first time last year, only two headsets were supported … and one of them had been manufactured by Google. Google now claims to work with "dozens of manufacturers," including Jaybird, Anker and Bose, and we should see more compatible products in the "coming months."
