The cholera outbreak at Mount Darwin has killed three people in the space of three days, confirmed a manager.
Sister Anna Chinyemba, Mt Darwin District Nurse, confirmed the death
Sister Chinyemba said that the first victim died Sunday, while the other two yesterday morning and evening in that order.
She added that those affected are artisbad miners in the Mukaradzi mining area, 25 kilometers from Mount Darwin.
"We believe that the epidemic could have been caused by poor sanitation because most of the mining activities in the area are illegal," Chinyemba told reporters.
"The region is clogged with artisbad miners and illegal sales are practiced there. The region has no sources of drinking water. Most of the people affected are men. "
Yesterday, the World Health Organization announced the establishment of a cholera treatment camp at Mount Darwin, as a reinforcement.
