I dream of being able to use my Sega Genesis games for over ten years. The PSP has already had a great Sega Genesis compilation – but the Vita has never had one. The Nintendo 3DS has an incredible Sega arcade and genesis games, perfectly restored by M2, but they are all sold separately. The offers of standalone handhelds have generally been pretty awful.
When the new Sega Genesis Clbadics compilation was released earlier this year on PS4 and Xbox One, I loved it and wanted a Nintendo Switch version. This moment has arrived and I am delighted to say that it is really very good. Until now, it's almost perfect … except for its missing games.
The value proposition is out of the charts here. For $ 30, you get 51 games. Many games on the list are really good. Others are mediocre. None is a total garbage filler. Some long dormant rarities are back, including Toejam & Earl and his sequel, Panic on Funkotron.
Do you want more good news? These games work with two Joy-Cons, allowing you to play many multiplayer games on the fly. Golden Ax, Streets of Rage, Columns – yes, that's fine. Joy-Cons can be split into two mini-controllers. Golden Ax played perfectly with Josh Goldman while barring the switch on my desk.
So far, the games seem to play perfectly, with audio and frame rate appearing in the foreground. That's what I usually mind about retro game boxes and that killed Sega Genesis Flashback's plug-and-play system.
The emulation system also allows you to add controls and tips, adding scan lines for the retro effect to removing the sprite limit of the Genesis emulator (whatever that does). Online multiplayer mode is available, but I have not tried it yet. There are game saves and rollbacks. It's a complete package.
Here is the sad news: some key games are missing. Ecco the Dolphin and his suite are not there. Some Sonic games are missing. And two games that made the PS4 / Xbox One version, Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair and Wonder Boy in Monster World, are not included either. (A remake of Wonder Boy III is sold on the Nintendo eShop, but it's expensive.) There is also no Thunder Force game, although Thunder Force IV is also sold on the game. eShop, as part of a separate set of versions of Sega Ages. And, of course, third party games are not present at all, so stop your dreams of Castlevania or Road Rash or Desert Strike or FIFA or Madden.
But, the games that are here are … abundant. And there are at least fifteen AAA games that are worth the price of entry: Phantasy Star, Dr. Robotnik, Streets of Rage, Sonics, Shinobis, Gunstar Heroes, Toejam & Earls and Vectorman games.
The list of games:

Sega is also slowly releasing its own series of Arcade ports and Sega Ages consoles on the switch, some of which could become indispensable items. But the value and quality of this compilation make it an obvious choice for any Sega-nostalgic Switch owner.
Sega Genesis Clbadics will perform on the eShop Switch on December 7th.
