Prince Charles is next on the throne when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, abdicates or dies. It seems that the palace is preparing for the Prince of Wales to accede to the throne, even before the death of the queen. But how will Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, be called when Prince Charles will become King of England?

One wonders if Camilla will badume the title of queen or queen consort when her husband will take the throne.

Shortly after the couple's wedding in 2005 at Windsor Guildhall, it was clear that Camilla would be awarded the title of princess husband when Charles acceded to the throne.

The official line of Clarence House is that Camilla will adopt the title of princess consort when her husband will take the throne.

At the time of the marriage of Charles and Camilla, it was perceived as a nightmare by public relations to crown Queen or Queen Consort, given the popularity of Princess Diana.

Since 2005, Camilla is officially known as Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall.

But over the years, Clarence House has worked to improve the public's perception of Camilla and in recent years she has proven to be an important and valued member of the royal family.

Camilla was even appointed a member of the Privy Council in 2016.

The promotion of Camilla by the Queen "has been perceived by many as a possible sign that her son and heir intends to make her queen Camilla."

It has been reported recently that Camilla will be awarded the new Queen Consort title when Charles becomes king.

"According to recent information, it will eventually become Queen Consort, the customary title of the wife of a reigning king," reports Vanity Fair.

It is also the title that Kate Middleton will receive when Prince William will eventually become king.

According to Pavlos Eleftheriadis, a professor of law at Oxford University, the Duchess of Cornwall is expected to be Queen under the Treason Act 1351 and as the wife of the Sovereign under the Regency Act of 1937.

He said: "The wife of a head of state is not, however, a joint head of state.

"The sovereign reigns alone. In this sense, Camilla will be a 'queen' in the limited legal sense of being the wife of the ruler. "

However, Clarence House has always insisted that the duchess would be called the princess consort.

And as no official announcement has been made to say otherwise, we can only badume that this is what Camilla will be referring to when Prince Charles ascends the throne.
