Vodacom said it added more than 150 new sites to its network in order to "facilitate extra traffic during the holiday season".
"The sites will support the migration of traffic to popular holiday destinations, as well as people returning home for parties in the country," said Vodacom.
A number of temporary sites will also be deployed to support additional voice and data traffic.
"More than 250 2G upgrades, more than 1,800 3G and more than 600 4G will also be performed. Vodacom began with various battery upgrades and the provision of back-up power facilities for key grid sites in the event of a power outage, "added Vodacom.
The company also announced it has accelerated its program of expanding rural coverage, which targeted 200 villages this year.
