Apple's cheapest iPhone – the colorful iPhone XR – was launched in South Africa at the end of October. It starts at 15,999 R for the 64 GB version.

The iPhone XR costs almost 6,000 rands less than the iPhone XS premium Apple and 8,000 rands cheaper than the largest iPhone XS Max.

It presents the same basic screen design as iPhone XS, Apple's flagship product, with many of the same high-end features, such as facial recognition and the new Bionic A12 chip .

However, the iPhone XR has a slightly larger screen than the iPhone XS (15.5 cm) and an LCD instead of the OLED screen.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of product marketing, recently told Reuters that the iPhone XR is currently "Apple's most popular product and our most popular iPhone."

Telkom offers the cheapest iPhone XR contract in South Africa, starting at R749 per month, which includes 1GB of data, up to 2GB for Whatsapp calls and messaging, and 50 free SMS messages per day.

For more than R50, you can get an iPhone XR with 2GB of data on Telkom with the added benefit of 10GB streaming music on Apple Music, Google Play Music and Simfy Africa.
